Kiwi de l’Adour in new serie of stamps. More >> Terroir is at the heart of the advertising message: the Kiwi’s excellent quality can be attributed to the rich soils and prevailing climate of the Adour Valley. To emphasise its significance, the Association has erected a super-sized model of a kiwi in cross-section at a street roundabout in the region. The installation is the work of artist Ydan Sarciat, and is intended to symbolise all local produce. The French postal service is also on board: in its new series of stamps entitled “My France” (La France comme j’aime), the Aquitaine Region is represented by an image of the Kiwi de l’Adour, with a print run of around 20,000 stamps.

The Kiwi de l’Adour growers dreamed of it... and turned it into reality! More >>
Resembling a meteorite, a magnificent Kiwi de l'Adour sits in splendour in the middle of the new RD817: Peyrehorade-Bayonne roundabout. 3 metres in diameter, two beautiful slices, ripened to perfection, blazon the region’s fruit speciality. Given over to the Kiwi de l'Adour Association by the Community of Pays d'Orthe municipalities, the roundabout is today the symbol of the region's production reflecting the official sign of the PGI (Protected Geographic Indication) obtained by the producers in May 2009, further confirmation of the superior quality of the fruit on top of the Label Rouge awarded in 1992. For over 40 years, Peyrehorade has been the regional epicentre of Kiwi de l’Adour production. From now on, this mark of the specialist work and production involved will be referenced in all French and European tourist guides and road maps. Without fear of contradiction, producers can now claim loud and clear that “Kiwi de l'Adour...eat it, you’ll be so strong”.

The Kiwi Oscar opens its doors to a class of Year 10 pupils from Saint Martin de Seignanx More >>
The Fraîch'Attitude healthy eating week was held from 4th to 13th June. To raise awareness about its work, the Scaap Kiwifruits de France opened its doors to Year 10 pupils from the François Truffaut secondary school in SAINT MARTIN DE SEIGNANX. After a presentation on the cultivation of the kiwi, its economic markets, quality management and the importance of traceability, the pupils had the opportunity to tour the kiwi packing station. Jean-Michel Baria, a teacher at the school, emphasised the constructive character of this day spent getting to know the world of business: “it’s a chance to come into contact with the real life of the Department. Kiwi growing is local, but is it marketed internationally. What’s more, seeing the stages of work from the orchard to the consumer made the pupils aware of the large number of trades involved in the life of the Kiwi Oscar: producers, technicians, operators, quality engineers, sales personnel etc. All possible openings for young people thinking about their professional future! ”.

Kiwi Oscar orchards in full bloom! More >>
Now is the time when bees are busy among the kiwi flowers, depositing pollen on the stigmas of the female flowers in the orchards. In this way, the bees’ activity ensures that the flower is fertilised and, later, produces a fruit. Kiwi Oscar producers installed bee hives close to the orchards at the start of the flowering season to help improve the pollination of the kiwis. This is vital to obtain a quality kiwi, both in terms of fruit size and taste.

The new Sabline carrot has arrived! More >>
The French carrot season is underway, and Prim'land has been marketing its new carrot since the beginning of April. These carrots are notable because the root is sold with the tops (called fanes) still attached: this is how you judge the new carrot’s freshness. Prim'land is marketing two million bunches, making it France's premier grower of new carrots. The Sabline carrot was among the French “Saveurs de l'Année” (Flavours of the Year) awardees in 2010. Consumers’ very positive comments showed how satisfied they were: they singled out the appetising colour and flavour as the key factors.

Maïsadour is investing in packaging for asparagus. More >>
In 2010, members of Maïsadour increased the land they put down to asparagus, and consequently, the Cooperative Group has invested in new equipment for its packing plant located at Magescq (40). In 2009, the asparagus harvest had a yield of 450 tonnes: in 2010, it will be nearer 650 tonnes. There are also plans to plant 50 hectares this year. “This level of cultivation is in response to consumer demand”, explains Pascal Lannebère, the Group’s Director in charge of fresh vegetables. Anticipating increased volumes to pack, the Group has invested 150,000 Euros in the Magescq (40) plant, where the existing system is more or less at capacity point. A second optical sorter has been installed as well as a new and much more efficient binder for better productivity. This has doubled the plant’s packing capacity.

Our company is delighted at the ultimate success of several years’ administrative procedure: we can now export kiwis produced in France directly to China. More >>
We attained this goal after a laborious process, assisted by the French Ministry of Agriculture, who helped with writing and negotiating the phytosanitary protocol, and by the French Embassy’s Economic Mission in Beijing and the French Ministry of the Economy. We also received help from the French Agricultural Advisor at Matignon (the Prime Minister’s Office). After eight years of effort, our company has in the last few weeks sent out the first consignments of fruits from Labatut. There will be over 2,000,000 Oscar kiwis on the tables for the Chinese New Year celebrations. A genuine FIRST for the French kiwi! The Chinese market has over 250 million potential buyers with the same purchasing power as those living in France. We have here a real opportunity to develop our production activity and to put our expertise to good use. We were honoured when the French Minister Xavier Darcos visited our offices this Friday 22nd January for this event. It was an opportunity to stress the quality of our farming practices and of our Professional Organizations.
